EDIT: 12/12/2019
Some were having issues where the central post of the original base was softening (PLA) due to the heat of the LEDs. I've uploaded two new veio of the base -- one with a thicker (10mm) post, and the other with a hole sized for a 3/8" dowel stick cut to whatever length you need. It will need to be glued to the base (Superglue, Hot Glue or Epoxy should work)
Please note, these two new veio are larger in diameter than the original post, so you will need to use the "non-waterproof" LED strips in order to fit through the flange. The waterproof LED strip has a thick silicone coating.
Test prints for both were successful. The thicker post did soften initially (I was using 3 outer laye and 35% infill) but after a few rounds of turning it on till it softened then turning it off till it cooled, it seems to have fixed it and now I can leave it on and it doesn't seem to soften anymore. Perhaps the rounds of heat annealed / heat treated the PLA?

Description
Stand for the 6" veion of Moononournation's excellent Progressive Detail Moon Lamp, found here:
It includes a collar and base, with recesses for magnets (optional). Alternatively it can just rest on top of the base, or be glued together if you don't care about accessing the LEDs in the future.
Please note
When slicing the moon, I dropped the Z height into the build plate by about 3mm from the default Cura positioning. This gives me a hole in the bottom of the moon roughly the size I need (20mm) for the collar to be glued into place. The hole on the bottom of the moon can be trimmed to the right size after printing with an xacto knife, and the collar fit into the hole and glued with super glue, hot glue or epoxy. Now you have a smooth interface to rest on the base.
If you don't lower the moon like I did in the slicer that's fine, but you will need to somehow make a hole in the bottom of the moon of about 20mm (start a little smaller and trim to fit) so the collar will fit snugly.
The LED light strip I used is 5v USB and I included a picture of where I sourced mine. The adhesive on the LED strip will not stick that well on its own, you'll need to glue or epoxy the light strip down most likely (I just wrapped mine with clear tape for testing).
The magnets are 5mm x 3mm and can be found on ebay for a couple bucks if you want to use them.
The uploaded veion is slightly altered from my prototype (original tolerances were too tight and required a lot of trimming / sanding to fit, I opened up the tolerances a little so it should fit together easier).
Center post is 115mm tall, so it should work with the 6-8" moon lamp sizes, possibly the 5" veion but I haven't tried it.
EDIT: 12/30/2018
Since printe have different tolerances, I've updated the sizes so the collar and base fit together much easier. Please re-download if you got the old veion on Dec 29th, it should help. Thank you for the feedback and support!
